Roc City Roller Derby's 2010 Boot Camp will be held on September 12, 19, 26 and October 3rd at Horizon Fun F/X, 675 Ling Rd., from 7-9:30pm. The cost of each will be $5 and you MUST have health insurance and be over 18, no exceptions. Skate rental will be available.
It is strongly suggested that you know how to roller skate before the boot camp if you are not steady on skates. Otherwise, you may not get a lot out of the boot camp. Try to go to adult open skate night at Horizon Fun F/X on Wednesdays at 8pm or skate outside. If you aren't steady on skates, it is difficult to teach the skills needed to play roller derby such as falling, hits, etc.
We will have some gear (knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards) to give out, but it is first come first serve. We may not have enough for everyone. If you have your own, please bring it. It would be wise to bring your own helmet-we won't have many of those and also bring your own mouth guard. You can buy cheaper sets of pads, helmets and mouth guards at Target, Walmart or Dick. Once you get a mouth guard, boil it and mold to fit your mouth.
If you want to buy your own gear, most of these websites have what they call "rookie packages" that include skates, all pads/wrist guards, helmet and mouth guard. They are:

We are choosing our pool of possible fresh meat skaters following boot camp. Basically treating it like a first cut. So, being at all four will give you more of an advantage. I would make it a point to attend at least three.
If you have not yet received handouts including a release form, personal info form and fresh meat info form, please e-mail Roxy D. Sniper at rcrd.recruitment@gmail.com. Please read the "fresh meat info" and fill out the release form and personal information form and have them ready with your ID and insurance card for Boot Camp. Also check out the minimum skills requirements for WFTDA, which will be the skills you will need to be able to perform to be considered for a team http://wftda.com/rules/wftda-rules-appendix-a-minimum-skill-requirements.pdf: If you have any questions please send to the above e-mail.
