We are Rochester’s first all-women, flat-track, roller derby league representing women from across the spectrum and are proud of it. From girlie-girls to tom-boys; loud-mouthed firecrackers to reserved tough girls. We enjoy lifelong athletes and women who’ve never touched a sport in their lives; spirited 21-year-olds all the way to a precious few seasoned rollergirls in their 40s... we're your girlfriends, sisters, and mothers taking things into our own hands. We formed the league in February of 2008. We strive to meet the strict athletic standards of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). RCRD is skater-owned and skater-operated, and currently boasts a group of approximately 60 hard-rollin fast-skatin’ women. We're training our bodies and our minds — our skaters run administration, marketing, finances and all other aspects of our league.
The Founders
When Resident Eva watched the Austin roller girls zip around the track and send their competitors flying, she knew she was in the wrong place.  She belonged on the roller derby track.

“I feel I was born to play this game,” says Eva. When no one else created a local league, Eva did it herself. It took her nearly three years but she and friends Emmeline Spankhurst and Emasculate 'Em finally got Roc City Roller Derby started. Private practice space came in 2008. In less than a year the league has grown to 40 dues-paying skaters and today, we boast two home teams and one WFTDA-aspiring travel team.

“I remember feeling satisfied that we had 25 or so players by summer of 2008,” says Eva. “I didn’t think it was a big deal, but other leagues thought it was amazing! We’ve doubled our numbers since then, so we must be doing something right.”
Members come three times a week to play from all over Monroe and Ontario counties. We are graphic designers, graduate and college students, journalists, daycare providers, retailers, security consultants and therapists who help adults and children with speech, socio and chemical dependency challenges. Some of us are moms. Many of us grew up watching derby on TV and wanted to make up a cool name, lace up and play. So, go ahead, meet the league »
