OUR MISSION: Roc City Roller Derby is a not-for-profit amateur athletic league that strives to play and promote the sport of flat-track roller derby; empower league members to develop as athletes, leaders, and good sportswomen; and contribute to the greater Rochester area through thoughtful community engagement.

Formed in 2008, we are Rochester, N.Y.'s first all-women, flat-track roller derby league. Member owned and operated, we strive to meet the strict athletic standards of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), of which we are proud members. We are lifelong athletes and women who’ve never touched a sport in their lives; spirited 21-year-olds to seasoned rollergirls in their 40s... we're your girlfriends, sisters, and mothers taking things into our own hands.

Our Beginnings

When Resident Eva watched the Austin roller girls zip around the track and send their competitors flying, she knew she was in the wrong place.  She belonged on the roller derby track.

“I feel I was born to play this game,” says Eva. When no one else created a local league, Eva did it herself. It took her nearly three years but she and friends Emmeline Spankhurst and Emasculate 'Em finally got Roc City Roller Derby started. Private practice space came in 2008. In less than a year the league grew to 40 dues-paying skaters and today, we boast three home teams, two travel teams, and are members of WFTDA.

“I remember feeling satisfied that we had 25 or so players by summer of 2008,” says Eva. “I didn’t think it was a big deal, but other leagues thought it was amazing! We’ve doubled our numbers since then, so we must be doing something right.”

Our League

RCRD League members come from all over Monroe and Ontario counties to play on three home teams and two travel teams. We are graphic designers, graduate and college students, journalists, daycare providers, retailers, security consultants and therapists who help adults and children with speech, socio- and chemical dependency challenges. Some of us are moms. Many of us grew up watching derby on TV and wanted to make up a cool name, lace up and play hard. So, go ahead, meet the league »
